Introduction
During this unit learners will look at the variety of methods of communication used within Health
and Social care practice. Be able to outline principles of effective communication and how to
identify and overcome common barriers to high quality communication.
Scenario
Learners may use their own employment context to write an assignment based on assessment
tasks. Assessment tasks are learning outcomes of the unit associated with Assessment Criteria.
Assessment criteria are descriptions of requirements a learner is expected to meet to demonstrate
that a learning outcome has been achieved. Therefore, you are required to generate sufficient
evidence on assessment criteria to meet learning outcomes of the unit within the rules, regulations
and standards to achieve credits of the unit. If you are not in employment, please use the following
scenario.
Consider you are working a Health and Social Care Assistant for an organisation in the health or
social care sector. In your role, you are evaluating a variety of methods of communication used
within Health and Social care practice and outline principles of effective communication and by
identifying and overcoming common barriers to high quality communication. In your role, you are
also identifying different methods of oral and written communication used in your organisation
and then identifying benefits and potential weaknesses of each. You have been asked by your line
manager to produce a report on your organisation to develop the effective communication system
in order to provide the best products and services to clients and to increase the productivity of the
overall communication system of the organisation. Therefore, please write a report based on the
following tasks and suggest any improvements with some recommendation.
Task 1
Understand the role of communication in effective Health and Social care practice by meeting

following A.C. (Assessment Criteria)
Guideline word count: 1000-1200 words
A.C. 3.1. Discuss the benefits and potential hazards of using technology in communications for
organisations
A.C. 3.2. Discuss the benefits and potential hazards of using technology in communications for
service users
A.C. 3.3. Explain the issues around Data protection and how it is implemented in Health and
Social care.
