1 Midterm Assignment (not marked, feedback only)
For the midterm assignment, you are required to submit a forum post of about 500 words that assesses the risk of a venture you are considering. You and a group of nine friends (including some people you have not met before, who have been invited by your friends) have decided to go on a walking holiday in the Cantabrian Mountains of Northern Spain. You are required to prepare a list of risks using the table template (that you will find in Unit 3). You should review and discuss relevant literature relating to the assignment (peer-reviewed literature is preferred, such as journal articles or conference articles, while books, white papers, practitioner literature, and blog articles are seen as being less dependable). After you have submitted your formative assessment, you will be able to see other students’ submissions, and you should make general critical comments (of both a positive and negative nature) to the postings of at least two other students. General feedback on the postings to the discussion will be provided by the tutor at the end of Unit 3.
2 Final Assignment – equivalent to 4,000 words
The final module mark is based on two deliverables:
- A recorded presentation – 50% of the final mark
- A case study analysis – 45% of the final mark
The remaining 5% is given for the quality of expression in your written/oral English.
2.1 The presentation – 50% of the module mark
You must produce a recorded presentation of 10 minutes maximum, including at least a 10-second clip of yourself (webcam capture while you present, talking-head, vlog, etc.). The presentation must be uploaded to the platform before the end of the module (Sunday night of the end of Unit 6, midnight Swiss time). The presentation should be based on the case study that you have written relating to risk management in an organisation of your choice (see section 2.2) and should be aimed at an audience of senior people from the organisation.
