Unit: 24 Understanding and Leading Change
Scenario and Activity 1: Research Paper You have recently joined as a Junior Business Consultant for a Management Consultancy Firm in North London, called You Ask Company. The firm is composed of different industry-specific experts who offer excellent professional advice, guidance, and solutions to business organisations experiencing problems they can’t solve in-house. Since you are new to the company, the manager wants to see how well you can provide business solutions to different situations. Before you are delegated with actual clients, your first task is to research two contemporary examples of organisations that have undergone a major organisational change. You may consider examples of organisations that were greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. You need to make justified recommendations that would minimise the impact of organisational change on organisational behaviour. You should: Give a brief overview of the two organisations Review at least 3 contemporary examples of organisational change and their impact on its business operations in both organisations. Some examples that you could include are large scale, small scale, planned, initiated and imposed types of change. Compare the drivers for their change, both internal and external, and their influence on organisational change in both organisations. Some examples include PESTLE analysis, core competences, technology, AI and data analytics. To complete the analysis, you must add in the strengths and limitations of the drivers for change and the types of organisational change they have affected that you have talked about previously. Analyse how leadership and individual behaviour in both organisations can be affected by change. Within your answer, explain what leadership and individual behaviour are and then explain their positive and negative impact on both organisations. Some examples can include the impact of change at different levels, psychological, team dynamics and influence of position and perception. Identify the measures that can be taken to minimise the negative impacts of the change on organisational behaviour in both organisations. You should then explain how this will benefit the organisation and what challenges you may face from doing this. Additionally, you should add your conclusion to the measures taken to complete the evaluation. Additionally, you must use further research and write a conclusion on the long-term implications of change on organisational behaviour to complete the critical evaluation. Lastly, make at least 3 justified recommendations that would minimise the impact of organisational change on organisational behaviour. |
Scenario and Activity 2: PowerPoint Presentation with supplementary notes Now that you have understood the types and drivers of change and its impact on organisational behaviour, you now need to demonstrate your understanding of the barriers and resistance to change. Using the organisations in your example above, you will need to critically analyse different leadership approaches and models in relation to the drivers and resisting forces. You will need to create and deliver a 15-minute PowerPoint presentation with supplementary notes that will identify the following: Investigate the forces for and against change and how they affect leadership decision-making in two organisations. Some examples of change you can include are Schein’s organisational culture model, self-efficacy perceptions and situational resistance when determining barriers. You will then need to talk about how the changes affect leadership decisions such as respecting and valuing diversity, values and ethical beliefs, speed of change, e.g. pre-emptive and proactive or responsive and reactive. Apply force field analysis to analyse both driving and resisting forces to show how they influence decision-making in two organisations. Firstly, you should explain what force field analysis is. Afterwards, you should give a detailed explanation of how it could be implemented and the impact (both positive and negative) that it would have on both organisations. Recommend at least 2 change leadership approaches and 2 models to change initiatives for given situations. Leadership approach examples include situational leadership, transformational leadership and psychodynamic approaches. Models of change examples include Kotter’s 8-Step Change Model, Lewin’s change management model, McKinsey’s 7 S model. To complete the analysis of leadership approaches and models for given situations, you must include strengths and limitations for both approaches and models. To finish the critical analysis, you must add in supplementary notes and conduct further research to explain different perspectives for different leadership approaches and models in relation to the drivers and resisting forces. |
